A Record-Breaking Finish at the Venetian
Chicago’s very own Aaron Massey once again displayed his poker prowess at the latest Mid-Stakes Poker Tour (MSPT) Main Event held at the Venetian. However, this time, his performance etched his name into the annals of poker history.
Making History with a Seventh-Place Finish
Massey’s seventh-place finish catapulted him into the elite ranks of the MSPT Hall of Fame, making him the first player to achieve this honor with an impressive 10th top-ten finish on the highly-regarded mid-major tour. His winnings in MSPT events have now soared past $700,000, and his overall career earnings have crossed the remarkable $5 million threshold.
Joining the MSPT Hall of Fame
Becoming the 12th player to gain entry into the prestigious MSPT Hall of Fame, Massey joins the likes of recent inductees “DQ” Dan Hendrickson and Josh Reichard. This distinguished group also includes poker luminaries such as Jason Seitz, Rob WazWaz, Blake Bohn, Patrick Steele, Mark Hodge, Aaron Johnson, Rich Alsup, Kou Vang, and Matt Kirby.
The Criteria for MSPT Hall of Fame Entry
The Mid-Stakes Poker Tour has garnered a dedicated following over the years, and its Hall of Fame serves as a testament to the most accomplished players within its ranks. There’s no voting process; instead, players must meet specific criteria for admission:
- Achieve a minimum of 25 MSPT Main Event cashes and one MSPT win or one MSPT Player of the Year title.
- Achieve a minimum of 10 MSPT Main Event final tables and one MSPT win or one MSPT Player of the Year title.
Massey’s Journey to the Top
Massey’s journey in the MSPT began with a victory at FireKeepers Casino in 2016, marking only his second cash on the tour. This triumph was followed by another final table appearance at the same venue later that year. By February 2017, he had already accumulated over $300,000 in winnings at one of the MSPT’s flagship stops.
Success in Las Vegas
Massey’s success wasn’t confined to the Midwest. Starting in late 2020, he consistently appeared on the payout sheets at Venetian Las Vegas, achieving notable finishes, including a ninth-place finish in June 2021, a seventh-place finish in December of the same year, and a remarkable third-place finish in the Poker Bowl event in 2022.
Hall of Fame Achieved Amidst a Pandemic
Since February 2022, Massey continued his impressive run with three more final tables at events held at the Venetian. His remarkable achievements, particularly during the post-COVID-19 poker resurgence, played a significant role in securing his place in the MSPT Hall of Fame.
