After seven days of intense competition at the 2023 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) hosted at King’s Resort in Rozvadov, Sokratis Linaras emerged as the triumphant winner of Event #3: €1,350 Mini Main Event. With a field of 1,729 participants, Linaras battled his way to victory, seizing a first-place prize of €310,350 and his inaugural World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

A Day of Triumph

On the final day of the Mini Main Event, Linaras commenced in the third position in chip counts. However, as the tournament unfolded, he seized the chip lead during the second level of play. This lead allowed Linaras to maintain his dominance for most of the day, ultimately securing victory with three eliminations at the final table.

The Winner’s Elation

In the wake of his victory, Linaras expressed his elation, stating, “I feel very happy. After four days of not sleeping well and playing too many hours every day, I feel very well. In the end, everything was okay. This win is the best one I’ve ever had. I started playing poker as a professional two years ago. It’s my second win, and I hope to have more.” Linaras tactically outlasted the aggressive Daniel Lehmann in heads-up play to secure the coveted gold bracelet.

A Year to Remember

This triumph adds to what has already been a remarkable year for the Greek native, following his previous victory in a €5,200 Pot Limit Omaha event at EPT Monte Carlo, which yielded a career-best score of €97,500. Linaras also made his presence felt in Rozvadov in 2023 with three additional cashes in other events. Speaking about his final heads-up opponent, Linaras noted, “He (Lehmann) is very aggressive. I had to wait for the right time, and that was it.”

When asked about his future plans for the series, Linaras mentioned his busy schedule but confirmed his intention to return for the Main Event, slated for November 10, where a Day 1a ticket awaits him.

Final Table Action

The final day of play began with eight hopeful players competing for WSOP glory. Action quickly unfolded, leading to two early eliminations. Francis Klar was the first to fall, followed by Aleksej Grenz, who couldn’t gain momentum throughout the day.

Georges Chehade met his end, running into Omar Eljach’s ace-jack in a blind-versus-blind confrontation. Eljach, who had been a short stack early in the day, managed to double up multiple times, including a crucial hand against Bayar Saran.

After Saran’s exit, the action slowed down with four players remaining. Lehmann and Linaras steadily chipped away at Eljach and Jamel Ghizaoui’s stacks. Eljach ultimately succumbed to Lehmann’s pocket threes, ending his deep run.

Ghizaoui also bowed out shortly after, setting the stage for an intense heads-up showdown between Lehmann and Linaras.

Heads-Up Duel and Victory

Heads-up play was a fast-paced affair, with Lehmann initially taking the lead. However, Linaras quickly regained control, executing a well-timed bluff to force a fold from his opponent.

The final hand of the tournament witnessed Lehmann’s bold bluff attempt with ten-high, but Linaras, holding the nut flush, made an easy call. Linaras secured his first WSOP gold bracelet with this final knockout, cementing his status as a rising star in the world of poker.
