Rakel Dahle – poker player, workaholic and mom of 3 beautiful kids

Rakel Dahle

Today we have the pleasure of speaking with a talented young woman who plays live poker – Rakel Dahle.

1) How did you get started playing poker?

I was visiting a friend of mine, who worked as a pokerdealer and has been playing for a long time. I got to play/see a little with the people sitting around the table to learn, and I immediately felt that this was something I liked both – the people and the environment. So when I visited her, we played poker. After a while, I met a group here at home in Åndalsnes who liked to play, and together with them, we have become quite an enthusiastic group. We are also a large group of girls who play, so now is girlfriend time is poker time.

2) What is your favorite type of poker game and why?

Holdem is my favorite game because it’s what I can and what I do best.

3) How do you stay focused during long hours of play?

If the game flows well and you hit the cards well, it is easier to sit longer. Then the time flies by. But you can start to stress if you struggle with playing and getting bad cards. Then it is tiring to sit in tournaments that last for a long time. That is why I always try to restart: fresh air, food, chat with some friends, play on the phone, and listen to music.

4) What’s the biggest win in your live poker career?

My greatest victory was when I won the Norwegian championship in the ladies’ event. Then I got a watch, €9341, and the fantastic slippers you get when you win the Norwegian Championship.

5) Do you have any superstitions or rituals you follow while playing?

No, actually not. Maybe I should make some?

6) What is your opinion on bluffing in live poker?

I mean it’s part of the game and always good when a big bluff goes in. but I think it has become more difficult to bluff, and I rarely do it at big tournaments.

7) What are some key traits you think every successful poker player should have?

I believe patience, variety, and interest are three essential qualities if you can go far.

What is the most memorable hand you’ve ever played?

The most memorable hand i’ve played has to be when I won in ladies’ event. K10♦️ against A3o. I see the king on the flop and end up with a straight. Fortunately, A3 hits nothing. So it’s a very unexciting hand, but one I’ll remember forever

9) How do you balance playing poker with the rest of your life?

Okay, good question, I work 100%, and I study 100%. I have three children. But I get to play 1-2 times a week mostly. Thanks to good supporters at home. It’s probably about priorities.

10) What are your goals for your poker career in the future?

Future goals must be to continue playing and be able to travel a few trips a year, have fun playing poker, win a tournament every now or then and enjoy it with my friends.
